Oil Paintings
Untitled. Oil paint and fabric, NYC
Mark-making is an expression of my body. My journey from figurative painting to abstraction happened in the process of my action in front of the large surface, improvised with my body and its movement —- similar to the Abstract Expressionists. The figure became me, and through action and the breakage of restraint and boundaries of my cultural taboos through eroticism, it freed and pushed through lines and surface as a tactile surface of the painting that made its mark by scraping and adding to the skin of the painting. I celebrated the freedom of my mark-making by scraping and adding to the skin of the painting. I freed myself from cultural taboos as boundaries through action, and this is how I was in conversation with the Action Painters.
